A 19-year-old has been charged with manslaughter after a man was killed in a First Nation in Manitoba's Interlake area, RCMP say.

Gypsumville RCMP found the victim as they responded to a report of a stabbing outside a home in Lake St. Martin First Nation just before 10 p.m. on Friday, Mounties said in a Tuesday news release.

Officers and emergency medical services who responded found a 22-year-old man with critical injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, and his death is now being investigated as a homicide, the release said.

The 19-year-old was taken into custody on Saturday. On Sunday, RCMP search and rescue officers carried out a ground search of the crime scene and surrounding area.

Joshua Beardy, 19, was charged with manslaughter and remanded into custody later that day.

Gypsumville RCMP say they continue to investigate the homicide, with help from major crime and forensic identification services.
