John Oates to open for Winnipeg's Bros. Landreth in Nashville

You could call it a dream come true — Winnipeg band The Bros. Landreth will have some massive talent opening for them on their tour stop in Nashville next month.

John Oates has offered to open for the Juno-winning locals after their agent passed on their album to him.

"We were all pretty flabbergasted — like wait, what? He wants to play — and he was really, he was so cool about it!" said David Landreth, from the van he and his brother Joey were driving to the southern U.S. on Tuesday night.

Oates called Landreth directly and asked him if he'd mind if he opened for them.

Basically he called to say, 'Hey listen, I really like your band. I love what you guys are doing. Keep it up. I'm a fan and would it be cool if I opened your show?'- David Landreth on his call from John Oates

"Basically he called to say, 'Hey listen, I really like your band. I love what you guys are doing. Keep it up. I'm a fan and would it be cool if I opened your show at 3rd & Lindsley in May?'" said Landreth.

Oates lives in Nashville and wanted a chance to hear the band live, Landreth said.

"[He said] 'I'd love to hear you guys and what better way to do that than to play a show together, and I know you guys are new in the market maybe I can help you get a couple of people through the door," said Landreth.

Not only that, but the singer wants to do some songs on stage with the band for the show.

"[He said] it would also be really cool if we got up and did a couple of songs together. I could play and sing on one of yours and I could back you up on one of yours,'" said Landreth. "Which of course was not a problem for us!"

The band is about to start their American tour and has enjoyed massive success in recent months.

They took home a Juno earlier this year for their debut release Let it Lie, and Landreth is in the midst of planning a wedding with another Juno-winner, Roberta Hansen.

Landreth said he's been a lifelong fan of Hall and Oates — so it really is a dream come true.

"When I think of my the favourite voices I think of Burton Cummings, Lowell George and Hall and Oates. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, I'm like, 'I have to hear These Eyes by Burton Cummings or Sara Smile by Hall and Oates.'"

Oates and The Bros. Landreth will take the stage on May 17 in Nashville.

The next time you can catch them in Winnipeg will be in October at the Burton Cummings Theatre — but tickets for that show are almost sold out.
