Shelley Desrochers: London mother went missing 3 years ago today
It's been three years since Shelley Desrochers of London, Ont., went missing but her sister Laura says she hasn't given up hope that police can uncover new information that might lead to her whereabouts.
"I'm just hanging on to hope," Laura Desrochers told CBC News on the third anniversary of her sister's disappearance.
Shelley Desrochers was last seen in the area of Lorne Avenue and English Street in east London on Jan. 2, 2016. At the time she went missing, Shelley Desrochers was 42.
London Police Const. Sandasha Bough said police have never given up the search to find Shelley.
"We've received hundreds of tips," said Bough. "We've followed up on investigative leads, we've followed up on Shelley's investigative footprint. We've investigated friends, family, anybody who may have spoken to her or been with her leading up to her disappearance. And we're just really looking for more information."
In a news release issued Wednesday, police said they have to consider the possibility that Desrochers is dead.
"The lack of contact with friends and family, along with information gathered during the course of the investigation, indicates a strong likelihood that she is deceased, however investigators are continuing to exploring all possibilities."
In the past, the Desrochers family has been critical of how police have handled the case. Police have said Shelley Desrochers followed a "high-risk lifestyle."
Investigation ongoing
But Laura Desrochers said Wednesday she believes the police are doing what they can.
"I know they're trying their best to figure out what happened to Shelley and to solve it," she said.
Laura described her sister as a loveable person who enjoyed spending time with her family.
"I miss her a lot," she said.
Police say the investigation into Shelley Desrocher's disappearance is "ongoing and very active,"
