The Ontario Summer Games have been postponed again, because of the pandemic, and will now be held in London, Ont., in 2024.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning by Lisa McLeod, the Minister of Heritage, Sports, Tourism and Culture Industries.

"As Ontario navigates a safe and gradual reopening, our government remains committed to protecting the health and well-being of all Ontarians, including all participants, volunteers and staff in the Ontario games", McLeod said.

"We're not talking about a cancellation," said London mayor Ed Holder. "Instead, we're talking about a postponement."

Holder thanked McLeod for keeping the games alive for London and for pledging $1 million in financial support. The event is expected to generate $5 million for London's economy.

The Ontario Summer Games were originally scheduled for London last summer but were postponed, due to the pandemic, until this year. But government officials decided it was too risky to proceed with the games given the current state of the pandemic.
