'Tremendous success': 2018 Ontario Summer Games in London come to an end
Organizers look to make improvements as the games will be back in London in 2020
The 2018 Ontario Summer Games came to end Sunday and they exceeded expectations, according to organizers.
"It was a tremendous success, the opening ceremony went off nearly flawlessly. Fortunately, we had great weather all weekend," said Dave de Kelver, the general manager of the Ontario Summer Games.
Over 8,000 people attended Thursday's opening ceremony, which includes athletes, coaches as well as members of the public.
Over 3,300 athletes competed in a total of 21 sporting events at venues spread across the region..
And the four-day event was a money-maker for London.
"We estimated that the economic impact to the city was around $6 million," said Bill Merrylees, chair of the local summer games board.

Members of the board were taking notes and looking for ways to improve. The next Ontario summer games in 2020 will also be held in London.
"There's always ways to improve. From logistics, to how you manage the athletes, to transportation," said de Kelver.
"We know the athletes had a great time, we also know there are a few adjustments that will make the games in 2020 even better than this year. We're very much looking forward to the games again," said Merrylees.
Some of the adjustments the committee would like to make are more behind the scenes.
"For example, just for the area of logistics, the number of volunteers we have delivering water and ice for the venues. Because of the weather we had, which was fantastic, but also warm and humid and we had to make sure to take care of our participants," said Merrylees.
The committee will also be discussing sporting venues—as well as adding or changing categories if required.
