An individual from London, Ont., faces impaired driving charges in relation to a serious crash in September involving two vehicles and a pedestrian outside the Western University gates.

Emergency crews were called to the crash scene on Richmond Street, near Epworth Avenue, just after 2:30 a.m. ET on Sept. 12.

The 29-year-old driver of one of the cars was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the 20-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by one of the vehicles. The pedestrian has since been discharged, police said.

Iknoor Singh Grewal, 20, faces numerous charges, including dangerous operation causing bodily harm, impaired operation causing bodily harm, transport of cannabis, the London Police Service (LPS) said Tuesday. Grewal is also charged with failure or refusal to comply with a peace officer's demand causing bodily harm.

Witnesses of the crash told CBC News they heard sirens and saw a car on fire. One of the vehicles had come to rest against a hydro pole that was sheared in half by the force of the collision, resulting in road closures and power outages throughout that day.

The accused is set to appear in London court in November.
