Londoner killed in early-morning crash on Hwy 401 in Elgin County

A section of Hwy. 401 west of London was closed Friday morning after a Londoner was killed in an early morning crash near Dutton-Dunwich.

A Londoner was killed in an early-morning crash along the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Dutton-Dunwich. 

Emergency crews were called to Currie Road at around 3:30 a.m., said provincial police in Elgin County. The crash involved a passenger vehicle driving east in the westbound lanes of the highway, and colliding with a commercial motor vehicle. 

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old from London, was taken to hospital where they were later pronounced dead. 

The driver of the truck wasn't injured. 

The identity of the person killed will not be released out of respect for the family's privacy, police said. 

The westbound lanes of the 401 were closed at Currie Road for several hours but have since been reopened.
