The Victoria Street bridge is scheduled for demolition this weekend, which will cause major traffic delays in the area.

The bridge was originally set to be demolished Feb. 10, but the snowy weather delayed those plans.

Highway 85 will be fully closed at the Victoria Street bridge this weekend during demolition work starting Saturday Feb. 24, at 4 a.m. to Sunday Feb. 25 at 10 a.m.

The Ministry of Transportation said preparations for the demolition will begin at 4 a.m., but actual demolition work will begin at 8 a.m.

Traffic will be rerouted via the southbound Wellington Street off-ramp and northbound Bruce Street off-ramp onto detour routes with OPP assistance.

The demolition and reconstruction of the Victoria Street bridge is part of ongoing work on the new Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph.

Victoria Street from Edna to Bruce streets has been closed since Jan. 29 and will remain so until November.
