SIU investigates after police officer discharged firearm during call in Cambridge
A 34-year-old man was seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment

The province's police watchdog is investigating after a Waterloo regional police officer discharged their firearm during a call for service in Cambridge that left a 34-year-old man seriously injured.
Police were called to the area of Sunnyhill Road on Sunday at approximately 12:15 a.m. for a report of a disturbance, according the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
When officers arrived, they observed a man with an edged weapon and there was an interaction, the SIU said. One officer discharged his firearm and struck the man.
He was taken to hospital for treatment, the SIU said.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service issued a release and said the SIU had invoked its mandate and "as required by law, no further information can be provided by the Waterloo Regional Police Service at this time."
Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the SIU investigation.
