Math can be a little tricky for some students, but a Kitchener teen wants to build a math wall he hopes will help kids improve their math skills.

Lazar Paroski, 14, received a grant from the Placemaking Challenge from Kitchener's Love My Hood initiative, which he plans on using to help fund the math wall.

"The math wall is basically all the tools you'll have on the wall in your classroom outside," Paroski told CBC News.

He noticed the region had low EQAO math scores and decided he was going to do something about it by putting some his passion for the math into an interactive wall.

The wall will be aimed for student between Grades 1 to 6. It will have learning tools to help kids better their math skills, like a calculator, tips on how to divide or a multiplication table.

He conducted numerous workshops at local elementary schools and community centres, where students could vote on what they think should go on the math wall.

The wall will be built in the park located around the corner of where Paroski lives, Morrison Park, near the playground and swing set.

"It'll be a lot funner because it'll be at a park," he said.

"I feel like a lot of people get bad vibes out of math and I'm hoping that putting it in a fun setting will maybe help them enjoy it more."

His goal is to make math fun and change some of the negative outlook on the subject.

Paroski said he's adding the finishing touches to the wall's design before it will be installed in July.
