Where, when and "if" are the focus of public input sought by the Region of Waterloo as officials look for approaches to address the epidemic of opioid abuse and overdose.

Waterloo Region plans to hold two public meetings in March and April as it continues to investigate the possibility of hosting one or more supervised injection sites.

The region's public health department recently completed a feasibility study, which was based on interviews with people who use drugs, interviews with service providers, focus group discussions and the results of an online survey.

The study indicated that more than one supervised injection site was preferred, and recommended downtown Kitchener and south Cambridge as possible locations.

The study also mention a preference for a third mobile site to address needs in other under-served areas.

The region wants to know what residents think of its plan and has arranged public meetings for March and April.
