Freezing rain on the way Wednesday afternoon, Environment Canada says

Waterloo region is under a special weather statement from Environment Canada as freezing rain is expected to start Wednesday afternoon.

A special weather statement is in effect for Waterloo region and Wellington County as snow and freezing rain are in their way for Wednesday.

More freezing rain is on the way for Waterloo region and Wellington county, according to a special weather statement from Environment Canada.

Environment Canada said periods of snow will start Wednesday morning and then turn into freezing rain by the the afternoon.

"Freezing rain is expected as another low pressure system developing over the Southern Plains States moves toward the Great Lakes," Environment Canada said in the statement.

The freezing rain could then change to periods of rain or drizzle Wednesday evening, as the temperatures is expected to rise above the freezing mark.

Environment Canada adds the freezing rain could untreated surfaces and roads slippery.
