Provincial money from the Ontario150 Community Celebration Program will come to four cultural events in Waterloo Region.

Liberal MPP Daiene Vernile announced the support Friday at the KW Counselling Services office.

The cultural agency recipients:

  • Coalition of Muslim Women of KW will receive $10,000 for an exhibit titled "Celebrating Identity," to showcase work of Muslim women artists, in co-operation with TheMuseum.
  • Neruda Arts will receive $22,000 towards the 2017 Kultrun World Music Festival. Funds will help the group present First Nations and immigrant stories through discussion, dance, music and visual art.
  • Homer Watson House and Gallery will receive $24,999 for a one-year exhibition and workshop titled "Celebrating the Colours of Canada: Literally and Contextually."
  • MT Space will be funded for $25,000 in order to present a series of three shows and interactive activities, focusing on Kitchener's local history, First Nations and stories of new Canadians.

In a release, Vernile also noted that KW Counselling Services will receive over $130,000 for infrastructure and foundation work to its building site, "ensuring long-term use of the facility, enabling diverse groups to work together to improve community life."
