School trustee Cindy Watson eyes Conservative Party nomination in Cambridge
Watson will go up against former Cambridge mayor Doug Craig for the nomination
Another name has been added to the list for the federal Conservative Party nomination in Cambridge.
Waterloo Region District School Board Trustee Cindy Watson said she intends to run for the nomination.
That means she'll be going up against former Cambridge mayor Doug Craig, who said he wanted the seat after losing his mayoral spot to former Liberal MPP Kathryn McGarry in the Oct. 22 municipal election.
"Even before the [municipal] election I had people suggesting that I run for that," Watson told CBC News.
"To me, it just seems like a natural progression. I would advocate at the federal level and bring the concerns of Cambridge froward."
Watson said she plans on continuing the "collaborative approach" she has used during her 18 years as a school board trustee.
"I think my strength is being a strong advocate for the concerns of the people that live in Cambridge," she said.
Liberal MP, Byan May, currently holds the seat in Cambridge.
