Hamilton Health Sciences has a new president and CEO coming: Rob MacIsaac, the president of Mohawk College.

MacIsaac announced Wednesday that he will be leaving the college at the end of his term on Jan. 31, 2014. He’ll take over at HHS effective Feb. 1.

“The decision to leave Mohawk College was not an easy one,” MacIsaac said. “I have had a wonderful time here and it has been such a pleasure working with so many talented and dedicated staff, faculty, and administrators.”

“However, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of another organization that plays a pivotal role in building an even stronger community throughout the region.”

During his tenure at Mohawk, MacIsaac led the largest renewal project in the college’s history. To date, $80 million has been invested in major construction and renovations at the Fennell Campus.

Along with record student enrolment, Mohawk also become the top ranked college in the GTHA, finishing first in overall student satisfaction for the past three consecutive years, the college said in a press release.

MacIsaac will take over from current HHS President and CEO Murray Martin who is retiring after 13 years in the role.

“We are extremely pleased to have attracted a leader of Rob’s calibre,” said Paul Chapin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hamilton Health Sciences. “He has a track record of leading talented teams to take large and complex organizations to new levels of success.

“His extensive public sector experience and long-standing connections to our communities will be an excellent complement to the world-class leadership we have in patient care and healthcare research and education.”

Prior to joining Mohawk, MacIsaac was the Chairman of Metrolinx, the transportation authority of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, and served three terms as Mayor of the City of Burlington from 1997 to 2006.

Mohawk’s Board of Governors will talk about the process to select a new president for the college at its meeting on Nov. 13.
