Mohawk College receives $350,000 grant from Scotiabank

There's nothing quite like $350,000 as a welcome back to class gift.

Mohawk College got a boost for its revitalization efforts Wednesday when it received a $350,000 donation from Scotiabank.

The funds are going towards ongoing construction and renovation projects at Mohawk's Fennell campus.

"Scotiabank is a strong supporter and long-standing partner of Mohawk College," said Rob MacIssac, Mohawk College president. "We are very appreciative of this donation which will give future generations of Mohawk students an even better place to learn, and provide students in need with the financial support they require to complete their college education."

In honour of the donation, Mohawk has named a popular gathering spot for students in the newest wing of the campus the Scotiabank Café.

"Scotiabank is pleased to support the renewal of Mohawk College's Fennell Campus with the Scotiabank Cafe," said Troy Wright, executive vice president of retail distribution for Scotiabank. "An important part of the post secondary education experience is the exchange of ideas and collaboration on projects with fellow students; something we hope will take place regularly at Scotiabank Cafe."

The $350,000 donation follows Scotiabank's previous $150,000 to the Shaping the Future Campaign that funded the construction of I Wing, which is home to the McKeil School of Business.

"We are especially pleased to know that a portion of our donation to Mohawk College will help remove financial barriers for deserving students wishing to pursue their education," Wright said.
