Neil Young is postponing his benefit concert in support of a northern Albertan first nation's fight against oilsands development.

"I am sad to say that I must postpone the July 3  Honour the Treaties concert at Edmonton's Rexall Place in support of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation's legal defense," he said in a media release.

The first nation believes oilsands development is destroying their traditional land and infringes on their legal rights.

Young said new dates will be announced in the near future.

The release said fans will receive refunds.
