Morinville secular schooling delayed by classroom shortage
Parents looking for secular education in Morinville, Alta. are disappointed school space will not be ready for September.
"As of right now there's no space," said parent Donna Hunter. "So they're going to have to call all the parents who've registered and tell them we're back to busing."
All schools in Morinville currently are run by the Greater St. Albert Catholic Board.
In June, a deal was reached with the neighbouring Sturgeon School District to provide a non-religious education in Morinville for the 60 kindergarten to grade 4 students who want it.
The problem is getting the three portable classrooms in place for September, said Greater St. Albert Catholic Region superintendent David Keohane.
"There are some hurdles to be cleared, there's no doubt about that," he said.
The portables may not be ready until December so the board is looking for temporary solutions either in Morinville or busing students to schools in Sturgeon County.
Keohane expects a solution to be reached sometime next week.
