Man dies in pedestrian collision on 99th Street

A man in his 70s was struck and killed by an SUV while crossing 99th Street this morning on the city’s south side.

A man in his 70s died this morning after he was struck by an SUV on 99th Street just south of Whyte Avenue.

Police responded to the collision near 79th Avenue and 99th Street at 10:18 a.m.

There, they found a male pedestrian lying on the road. Paramedics pronounced the man, thought to be in his 70s, dead at the scene. 

The investigation is in the preliminary stages. But police say witness reports suggest the pedestrian was trying to cross 99th Street at a marked intersection on the north side of 79th Avenue when he was struck by an oncoming Honda CRV.

At this time, charges have not been laid against the male driver. 

The police major collision investigations unit has since taken over the scene and is interviewing witnesses.

Police say 99th Street has now reopened to traffic. .
