As the drug crisis continues in Alberta, there are many tragic stories of families fighting to save a loved one, or losing someone to addiction. This week on CBC's This is Edmonton podcast, the story has a different ending.

Angie Staines and her son Brandon share his experience from addiction to recovery.

After suffering for years, Brandon is now back with his mom, living a healthy and fulfilling life. But it wasn't easy.

Angie embraced harm reduction to help get him to the other side. She originally shared her story with CBC's Tanara McLean in 2022, in a documentary called Unconditional Love.

Three years later, they reconnect and share how their lives have changed and what it means to look back.
