Former Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith says she will have to face an opponent for the Progressive Conservative nomination in Highwood on March 28, denying reports that she won't have to fight for the position.
Media reports published Monday suggested Premier Jim Prentice was going to appoint Smith, in order to avoid a potentially contentious and embarrassing battle.
On Tuesday, Smith said that isn’t the case.
“No, we’ve got an open contest, the PC Highwood association made the announcement last night,” she said at the Alberta legislature.
“There’ll be two candidates in the race and I’m looking forward to being able to debate ideas.”
Smith is running against Okotoks councillor Carrie Fischer.
