Industrial fire leads to clouds of black smoke seen throughout Calgary
Blaze at auto recycling facility under investigation
A structure fire in the 3800 block of 15A Street S.E resulted in a thick black cloud of smoke that could be seen from a distance across Calgary on Tuesday.
In a release, the Calgary Fire Department said crews responded to multiple calls of a fire at an auto recycling facility. A second alarm was quickly called for additional resources because of the large volume of smoke and fire.
One caller reported that the tent structure contained tires, batteries, oil and gasoline, the fire department said in a release.
The fire was brought under control before 3 p.m. and firefighters continued to douse hot spots. Damage was contained to the structure and the immediate surrounding area.
