Homestretch Brunch Club: Where to find the best eats in Calgary

Homestretch Brunch Club reviewer Jen Li says Monki is one of the best spots in Calgary.

The best of breakfast and lunch in one delicious meal!

This summer The Homestretch is doing brunch. On alternating Thursdays throughout July and August, Calgary bloggers Jen Li and Bonnie Huang will join Doug Dirks on CBC Radio Calgary with a report on Cowtown's brunch scene.

For something lighter, Jen recommends Monki's frittatas, specifically this wild mushroom, red pepper and spinach frittata that comes topped with gooey chunks of creamy feta. (Jen Li/@eatrundesign)

Jen Li says Monki is one of the best brunch spots in Calgary, and it's one of her personal favourites.

It's a cozy 24-seat restaurant with a small patio built into a heritage building in Calgary's Beltline.

Monki specializes in dishes that take creative licence with many of your favourite brunch classics. Jen's personal favourite is smoked salmon benny with asparagus, topped with prosecco hollandaise and crispy fried capers. Jen says it's served on top of gluten-free biscuits, which is great for those with sensitivities.

Monki is also open for lunch with paninis, salads and burgers on the menu. It doesn't take reservations and the lineup can get crazy on weekends, but Jen says it's worth the wait.
