Four men have been charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Surrey, which occurred on Friday morning, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:46 a.m. in the 900-block of 164 Street, left 28-year-old Yuvraj Goyal, of Surrey, dead.

In a statement released Saturday, the homicide unit said authorities were alerted to a vehicle fire in the 18500-block of McMillan Road shortly after the shooting.

IHIT said a swift response from the Surrey RCMP,  Air 1, and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team led to the arrest of four suspects.

Initial evidence indicates the shooting was targeted, though investigators said they are trying to understand why Goyal, who had no prior police record, was targeted.

According to the statement, Manvir Basram, 23, Sahib Basra, 20, and Harkirat Jhutty, 23, all of Surrey, along with Keilon Francois, 20, of Ontario have been charged with first degree murder.

"We're thankful for the hard work of the Surrey RCMP, Air 1, and IERT, but there is still more work to be done," Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT said in the same statement.

"IHIT investigators remain dedicated to determining why Mr. Goyal was the victim of this homicide."

IHIT is appealing to anyone with information or dashcam footage from the areas around the 900-block of 164 Street between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. PT and the 18500-block of McMillan Road between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. PT to contact them at 1-877-551-4448 or via email at [email protected].

As the case is now before the courts, IHIT said it will not be providing further comments.
