Listen to Vanessa Morgan sing 'Friday I'm in Love' in Wild Cards finale
Wild Cards 2-part Season 2 finale is now streaming on CBC Gem

The Season 2 finale of CBC cop drama Wild Cards ramps up the intrigue: Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti) gets new information about his brother's murder that leads him to a jazz club. Max (Vanessa Morgan) goes undercover as a singer at the club to gather intel.
And the best part? We get to hear actor Vanessa Morgan sing. Take a listen.
Morgan actually began her career as a singer. Starting at age five, she sang at community events and telethons in Palm Springs California. In 1999, she won first place in the African-American Vocal Competition. She even sang the theme song for The Latest Buzz, a teen sitcom series she starred in.
And now, Wild Cards fans get a chance to sample that talent. In the penultimate cliffhanger, inspired by the 1989 classic movie The Fabulous Baker Boys, Max goes undercover as a singer who steps up to perform when the club's headliner is lured away to another assignment.
"Singing has always been one of my dreams and talents from God," says Morgan. "They [the Wild Cards production team] knew I could sing, and then doing that for me and letting the world also see, that's so special to me."
Sitting on the piano in a sequined dress, she sings a sultry version of Friday, I'm in Love by The Cure. "It's a super nostalgic song — I used to listen to that song growing up — and I feel it fits the episode. And it was a super fun song to get to sing!"
Morgan posted this adorable video of her son River off-camera, thrilled to watch mom perform this scene.
Watch the full performance, now streaming on CBC Gem.
