Foligno to remain with Wolves as GM
OHL club names Verreault head coach, Beukeboom assistant
Former NHL forward Mike Foligno is staying on with the Ontario Hockey League's Sudbury Wolves in a reduced role.
The 50-year-old will step away from his head-coaching duties to focus on the general manager's role, Sudbury radio station CJMX reported Thursday.
Associate coach Bryan Verreault will take over behind the bench and be joined by one-time NHLer Jeff Beukeboom, the Wolves new assistant.
Foligno's wife Janis died last month after a long battle with cancer.
A Sudbury native and former Wolves player, Foligno scored 355 goals and collected 372 assists in 1,018 career NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. He added 15 goals and 17 assists in 57 career playoff games.
Foligno returned to Sudbury and took over the Wolves at the start of the 2003-04 season, winning the OHL's Eastern Conference Championship in 2007 before bowing out to Plymouth in the league finals.
His son Nick plays for the Ottawa Senators.
