Hamilton makes it official with QBs Porter, Glenn
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have brought back their 1-2 punch at quarterback, signing Kevin Glenn and Quinton Porter to contract extensions.
The Ticats did not release contract details. Porter got the call to begin last season after an impressive end to 2008, but when he stumbled, the veteran Glenn enjoyed a career resurgence.
"Having two good quarterbacks is important to be successful in this league and we feel that Kevin and Quinton, along with the other quarterbacks on our roster, give us a tremendous amount of stability at that position," said general manager Bob O’Billovich. "We are pleased with the leadership Kevin has provided as well as the potential shown by Quinton, and are confident in the abilities of both players."
Glenn threw for 18 touchdowns and 3,077 yards, with seven interceptions. It was his most impressive stretch of play since 2007, when he helped lead Winnipeg to a Grey Cup appearance before breaking his left arm on the verge of the championship game.
Porter threw for 1,762 yards last season, with six touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 389 yards and three touchdowns.
The improved play at the quarterback position helped lead Hamilton to nine wins for the first time since 2004, and a playoff berth.
The new deals were first reported on Monday, when the team made official the re-signing of defensive players Otis Floyd and Darrell Adams.
