Ticats sign vets Floyd, Adams: CFL roundup

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced on Wednesday that they were bringing back longtime CFL linebacker Otis Floyd and fourth-year defensive tackle Darrell Adams.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced on Wednesday that they were bringing back longtime CFL linebacker Otis Floyd and fourth-year defensive tackle Darrell Adams.

"Darrell and Otis are key players in the middle of our defence and provide valuable experience at their positions," general manager Bob O’Billovich said in a statement.

"Otis made an immediate impact last season and brought leadership both on and off the field, while Darrell has the potential to become one of the better defensive tackles in the league because of his size, quickness and ability to rush the passer."

Floyd, 33, enters his second season with Hamilton. He previously played for B.C., Calgary and Edmonton in a decade-long CFL career that has featured 35 regular season sacks, nine forced fumbles and two interceptions.

He's played on two Grey Cup winners, recovering a fumble deep in B.C. territory for a key play in the 2006 championship game.

The 26-year-old Adams had a leg injury last season and saw his sack total drop to two from eight in the 2008 season. He signed with Hamilton late in 2007 as a free agent after a collegiate career with Villanova.

Lumbala leaves Lions for Dolphins

For the second straight winter, the B.C. Lions have lost a notable running back to the National Football League.

The Miami Dolphins inked Rolly Lumbala on Wednesday after the fullback spent the last two seasons in the CFL.

A year ago, running back Stefan Logan joined the Pittsburgh Steelers while Miami lured all-star defensive end Cameron Wake from B.C.

Lumbala, 23, first signed with the Dolphins two years ago following his college career at the University of Idaho and joined the Lions after being released by the NFL club.

The six-foot-two, 238-pounder was selected ninth overall by B.C. in the 2008 Canadian college draft.

In five games last season, Lumbala carried the ball six times for 10 yards. He also caught five passes for 45 yards.

Argos high on Pottinger

The Toronto Argonauts extended Canadian linebacker Jason Pottinger's contract through the 2011 season.

Pottinger posted 12 special-teams tackles, added six defensive tackles, a quarterback sack and forced a fumble.

"I am extremely excited to remain an Argo," Pottinger said in a statement. "I am looking forward to the 2010 season; both the athletes and the front office staff are determined to bring the Toronto Argos back to fine form, something that our dedicated fans more than deserve."

The Whitby, Ont., native was acquired before last season from the B.C. Lions.

"He’s been a consistent special teams player and has the potential to get in the rotation at the LB spot," Argos general manager Adam Rita said in a statement.  "We expect him to have an even more productive year in 2010 and work to become a starter in the near future."

Elsewhere, the Indianapolis Colts signed Winnipeg Blue Bombers receiver Dudley Guice, who hauled in six passes for 76 yards in three games for the Bombers in 2009.
