Oscar Pistorius selected for South Africa's Paralympic team
Oscar Pistorius has been selected for South Africa's Paralympics team as expected, as the double-amputee sprinter seeks to also qualify for the London Olympics.
Pistorius and swimmer Natalie du Toit were among 62 athletes picked by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee on Wednesday for the Aug. 29-Sept. 9 Paralympics.
Pistorius will defend his 100-, 200- and 400-metre Paralympic titles, but the "Blade Runner" now has just 10 days left to post a qualifying time in the 400 for the Olympics and become the first amputee sprinter to compete at the games.
Du Toit competed at the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics in Beijing. The swimmer became the first amputee competitor at the Olympics, finishing 16th in the 10-kilometre open water swim.
