Actor and DACA recipient Bambadjan Bamba sheds light on America's broken immigration system
You might remember seeing actor Bambadjan Bamba on TV shows like Grey's Anatomy or The Good Place. He's even landed a role in Marvel's next big blockbuster, Black Panther. Until recently, Bamba has been keeping a secret — he's undocumented and he never actually became a U.S. citizen.
Right now, the Hollywood actor is protected under the Deferrred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which means he has a permit to work in the country legally. The program protects people from getting deported, if they came to America as kids. But the Trump administration has announced it wants to repeal the DACA program, putting Bamba and others like him at risk of losing everything.
"I'm not just undocumented but I'm a black man in America. I'm a black immigrant so that comes with the things that being black in America comes with," he says. "You're walking this fine line of just trying to survive."
