Is your veterinary clinic owned by a corporation?

Before 2010, almost all veterinary clinics in Canada were independently owned by the vet you visited. Today, more than half of emergency and specialty hospitals and more than 20 per cent of all clinics are owned by six corporations.  Two of the three top vet consolidators in the country, VetStrategy and NVA, don't brand the clinics they buy — and that means consumers often don't know when they are visiting a corporately run vet. The third largest consolidator, VCA, does brand its clinics.

To help you determine whether your vet clinic is owned by one of the top three vet consolidators, CBC Marketplace pulled the data from the websites of VetStrategy, VCA and NVA and created this searchable database below. The information in the database was accurate as of Jan. 13, 2025.

You can read VetStrategy, NVA, and VCA's perspective on corporate branding and transparency here.
