South Park to air in French this fall
A French-language version of the popular American animated sitcom South Park will begin airing in Quebec this fall.
French-Canadian actress Karine Vanasse and Canadian actor and filmmaker Xavier Dolan are set to voice the animated TV series.
Dolan, who won three awards for his film J'ai tué ma mère at the 2009 Cannes International Film Festival, will voice the character of Stan.
Vanasse, who recently starred and produced the film Polytechnique, will voice Stan's love interest, Wendy.
Actor and comedian Alex Perron will voice the characters Mr. Garrison and Big Gay Al.
South Park first debuted in 1997 and quickly became popular for its crude humour.
The show follows a group of four boys, Stan, Kyle, Eric and Kenny and their adventures in the fictional town of South Park, Colorado.
The comedy series has been known to spark controversies for its portrayal of touchy subjects like religion.
In 1999, a feature-length musical film entitled South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut was released. The film shows the people of South Park in a war with Canada and features the Oscar-nominated song Blame Canada.
The French-language version of South Park will be broadcast on the TQS network in September.
