Jim Carrey to be honoured by Montreal's Just For Laughs Awards
Daily Show's Trevor Noah named Comedy Person of the Year
Canadian comedy star Jim Carrey will receive a special homegrown honour at this year's Just For Laughs Awards in Montreal.
The award-winning actor will be recognized with the Generation Award, while The Daily Show host Trevor Noah has been named Comedy Person of the Year.
Born in Newmarket, Ont., Carrey made a name for himself in Hollywood with his slapstick brand of stand-up comedy. He is known for his larger-than-life characters such as the Grinch, Ace Ventura, the Mask, and Horton the elephant in the animated Dr. Seuss story, Horton Hears A Who.
Kenya Barris, co-creator of the hit ABC family sitcom Black-ish, will receive the Comedy Writer of the Year Award.
Scottish-American TV personality Craig Ferguson of Celebrity Name Game and The Late Late Show fame will receive the Alumni tribute.
American stand-up comedian Mike Birbiglia will receive the award for Stand-Up Comedian of the Year.
Ali Wong, known for her hit Netflix special, Baby Cobra, will take home the Breakout Comedy Star of the Year Award.
The awards ceremony takes place during the annual Just For Laughs festival, featuring performances from Kevin Hart, Pineapple Express star Danny McBride, The Daily Show's Hasan Minaj, and Montreal's own Jay Baruchel.
All six recipients are slated to attend the ceremony, which will take place on July 28 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal.
