Jim Carrey 'shocked and deeply saddened' by death of Cathriona White
Canadian actor and Irish makeup artist had on-again, off-again relationship
Canadian-born actor Jim Carrey says he's "shocked and deeply saddened by the passing" of his on-again, off-again girlfriend after Los Angeles authorities confirmed that Cathriona White was found dead in her Los Angeles area home Monday.
White, a 30-year-old makeup artist originally from Ireland, was discovered unresponsive by a friend and pronounced dead at the scene Monday evening.
Pills were found next to the body along with a note that references Carrey, Los Angeles County assistant chief coroner Ed Winter told the Hollywood Reporter.
The coroner's office is holding off revealing a cause of death pending toxicology and other tests.
Newmarket, Ont.-born Carrey, 53, and White began dating in 2012 and have had an on-again, off-again relationship. They were seen together holding hands in May. Earlier this month, Carrey shared a photo of himself on social media, citing White as the photographer. In his statement about her death, he referred to her as "my sweet Cathriona."
"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled," he said.
"My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."
White posted what now seems ominous messages on social media last week.
