Windsor's jobless rate tops 9 per cent, highest in Ontario
Windsor's unemployment is the second-highest in the country
Windsor's jobless numbers rose again in January.
The unemployment rate increased to 9.1 per cent last month, up from 8.9 per cent in December.
It remains the highest rate in Ontario and the second highest in Canada behind Red Deer, Alta. at 9.7 per cent.
The regional saw a shift in the labour market in January with job postings down but job seekers up, according to a monthly update from Workforce WindsorEssex.
Active job postings were down 40.3 per cent month over month – from 4,304 in January 2024 to 2,568 in January 2025. However, there was an increase in new job postings in January as compared to December 2024.
The labour force grew by 2,500 people between December and January, the organization said.
The region saw an increased demand for workers in the agriculture, forestry, transportation, warehousing and fishing and hunting sectors, it said.
