Man charged with attempted murder following shooting on Birch Street in city's west end

A 28-year-old man who was wanted for an attempted murder in the city’s west end is now in custody, Windsor police say.

A 28-year-old man who was wanted for an attempted murder in the city's west end is now in custody, Windsor police say.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on Jan. 26, police received a report about gunshots in the area of Birch Street near Prince Road. Officers located a man with a gunshot wound in the area. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the shooting at a house party was "targeted."

In a news release Friday morning police said the accused was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon by Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.

Police say the man has been charged with:

  • Attempted murder.
  • Aggravated assault.
  • Pointing a firearm.
  • Discharging a firearm with the intent to endanger life.
  • Intentionally discharging a firearm while being reckless to life.
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm.
