Marina, waterfront development will get public input
Council has approved $150,000 and 5 months to solicit new ideas for Windsor's waterfront
Windsorites will have their say on what they want on Windsor's riverfront.
Council on Monday approved using upcoming ward meetings to solicit input, ideas and reaction to the Central Riverfront Implementation Plan, which has been around since 2000.
Mayor Eddie Francis said they have to be practical ideas in order to move forward quickly:
"There are always going to be people who say don't do anything. But doing nothing and sitting on the sidelines doesn't allow you to advance your community," Francis said.
A maximum of $150,000 is being set aside to hire a consultant to assist in the information gathering exercise. It's expected to take up to five months.
"For those that will say 'you don't have the money for it,' everything we have done, we have done in a very balanced and responsible way. That will be a core principal as we move forward," Francis said.
People will get the opportunity to suggest and comment on what they want on the riverfront including a new marina the mayor has pushed so hard for.
"We've prided ourselves on the fact we get the job done.Anything you bring forward, make sure it's practical, make sure it's reasonable. Those are things I'd like to bring back to city council for consideration of the 2014 budget," Francis said.
