The Elections Canada returning officer for the riding of Windsor—Tecumseh—Lakeshore has validated the election of Conservative candidate Kathy Borrelli in Monday's election but reduced her margin of victory to just 77 votes from the 233 originally reported on Tuesday.

That margin, however, remains above the threshold that would trigger a judicial recount, according to information on the Elections Canada website.

That threshold is 0.1 per cent of the total votes cast.

The total number of votes cast in the riding was 70,546.

The validation process involves checking the cumulative vote total of all polls based on individual statements of the vote from each poll. But it does not involve recounting ballots.

Borrelli unseated former Liberal MP Irek Kusmierczyk, who had held the riding since 2019.

Her victory was part of a blue wave that saw Conservatives win five seats in Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia.
