6th person charged in homicide of Markham woman last summer, police say
19-year-old man from Toronto charged with manslaughter, other offences
York Regional Police say they have charged a 19-year-old man with manslaughter and a host of other offences in connection with the death of a Markham woman last summer.
The man is the sixth person to face charges after 56-year-old Yuk-Ying Anita Mui's remains were found in August.
In a news release Friday, police said that in addition to manslaughter, the man was also charged with:
- Accessory after the fact to murder.
- Kidnapping.
- Two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The man, who is from Toronto, was arrested on January 15, police said.
Mui, a Realtor in Markham and surrounding areas, was reported missing by her family on the morning of August 9. Her Mercedes SUV was discovered abandoned in Toronto later that day.
Then, on August 12, her burned remains were found in Parry Sound.
Others charged in the case include a 24-year-old man from Oshawa and another 19-year-old man from Toronto. Three youths — two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old — were charged with firearms and fraud-related offences as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, a Canada-wide arrest warrant for Zhixiong Marko Hu, 47, remains in place. Hu is wanted for first-degree murder. Police said last year they believe he may have fled to Hong Kong.
Investigators have previously said Mui may have met Hu the day she disappeared to discuss a real estate transaction in Stouffville.
