Two men wanted on arrest warrants, police say

A magic mushroom store named FunGuyz opened its doors in Windsor, Ont., at the end of June. Some area residents and a local councillor have questions about the legality of the business.

York police say they have charged 15 people and seized more than $3.5 million in psychedelics from FunGuyz, a chain of illegal magic mushroom stores.

Police began investigating a FunGuyz store in Vaughan near Yonge and Centre streets in March 2024 after receiving complaints from the community, according to a news release Thursday.

Investigators targeted FunGuyz stores across Ontario, ultimately laying 78 charges against 15 people who they say were involved in the production and distribution of illegal substances.

Police executed 29 search warrants and seized more than $450,000 in cash, as well as "a property worth over $1 million," the release said.

They seized 181 kg of dried magic mushrooms, also known as psilocybin, 137 kg of edible psilocybin, and nearly 170,000 psilocybin capsules.

Officers also seized 179 grams of dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and 54 grams of illegal cannabis.

The sale and possession of magic mushrooms and DMT is illegal under the federal Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Chain announced all stores will close last year

Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 38-year-old man from Toronto who they believe is in the United Kingdom. They also issued a warrant for a 32-year-old man from London, Ont., who is believed to be in Egypt.

Of the 13 other people who have been charged, two are from Whitchurch-Stouffville, three are from Hamilton and two are from Toronto.

The other accused are from Newmarket, Mississauga, London, Grimsby, Puslinch and Gatineau, QB.

FunGuyz, a chain with the majority of its 30 locations in Ontario, announced in November it will close them all, citing ongoing police raids on stores.

The stores had been raided over 120 times, spokesperson Chris Stewart told CBC News in November.
