Vaughan, Ont., explores renaming America Avenue amid Canada-U.S. tariff war
Residents can weigh in on possible change to Terry Fox Avenue by April 24

The city of Vaughan is considering changing the name of one of its streets in a patriotic move amid the ongoing Canada-U.S. tariff war.
Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca put forward a member's motion in February to have America Avenue renamed to Terry Fox Avenue, after the Canadian icon.
"The entire idea was motivated by a sense of Canadian patriotism and standing up for Canada, especially in light of what's been happening with president Trump and his moves against our country," Del Duca told CBC News on Thursday.
America Avenue residents have been asked by city staff to share their opinions on the potential renaming by April 24.
Del Duca says he hopes city staff will report back on the consultation results before the summer. He says he hasn't seen the results yet, but have heard from two "concerned" residents who are against the renaming.
"It does put a little bit of burden on an individual who may have lived in the street for a number of years. They have to change all of their information," he said. "We don't want to make life more difficult for our residents."
He did not share the exact cost of the renaming, but said it would be "relatively low."
"It's literally a handful of street signs that would have to be changed," said Del Duca.

Vaughan resident Adam Cuddemi says he's not sure the renaming will be worth it considering the possible costs.
"I don't know if it's worth it. It's nice that they want to rename it after Terry Fox, out of anybody, it should be him. But it's going to cost a lot and all of these people will have to change their addresses," he said.
John Midanik has been living in the area for 20 years and supports the change.
"I think it's a great idea. Terry Fox has been a fantastic example for Canada and I absolutely support that change," he said. "Regardless of what is happening in the States, we should support Terry Fox."
Del Duca will also send a letter to Ontario's Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria asking him to rename the city's Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge to Terry Fox Bridge.
"I'm comfortable and hoping and believing that the Ministry will agree with us," said Del Duca.
