Toronto weekend road closures include Pan Am Games-related events

The Pan Am Games' final competitions and closing ceremony will cause some weekend road closures around High Park and the Rogers Centre, adding to regularly scheduled maintenance work.

From now until late Saturday, Lake Shore Boulevard, from the Exhibition to High Park, will be closed for a series of races including the men's marathon, the cycling road races and the 50-kilometre race walk.

That event will also close the eastbound Gardiner Expressway's off-ramp to Jameson Avenue, and it will cause local traffic issues throughout the High Park area. Here's a look at the routes, so if you're driving you can avoid it or if you're a fan, check out some of the action for free.

Lake Shore, from British Columbia Drive to Strachan Avenue, will also be closed from Saturday night to Sunday at 2 p.m. for the 50-kilometre race walk.

"Whenever possible, residents and visitors are encouraged to consider carpooling, public transit, walking or cycling to get around this weekend and throughout the Games," the city said in a news release.

On Sunday, expect significant traffic delays as athletes, fans and Kanye West converge on the Pan Am Dome (Rogers Centre) for the closing ceremony.

There will also be cycling detours on the west end stretch of the Martin Goodman Trail from 1 a.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. on Sunday. Signage is in place along the almost 3-kilometre detour.

There are no scheduled subway closures this weekend.

Beaches Jazz Festival closes part of Queen East

Elsewhere in the city, the Beaches Jazz Festival will close Queen Street East from Woodbine Avenue to Beech Avenue from 6-12 p.m. tonight and for the rest of the weekend.

PrideHouse TO will also keep its celebrations going all weekend, closing Church Street from Alexander to Dundonald Street. The Church and Wellesley intersection is set to remain open to traffic.
