Toronto police are investigating a brazen robbery where the suspects drove a truck into a store in a Scarborough plaza, hitting a gas line. CBC’s Clara Pasieka has the latest details.

Robbers backed a truck into a jewelry store in a Scarborough plaza Wednesday evening, hitting a gas line, Toronto police say.

Police were called just before 6:30 p.m. about a robbery in the area of Eglinton Avenue and Brimley Road.

The suspects had backed a stolen truck into the store and were attempting to steal from it, but nothing was taken from the store, Duty Insp. Saleem Husain said.

"They were unable to get into the store with the vehicle in the way," he said.

The suspects fled in a separate light-coloured vehicle before officers arrived, Husain said.

The area was temporarily evacuated because the truck hit a gas line and damaged it.

The gas line was repaired at around 8 p.m., police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

One of the jewelry store's owners suffered minor injuries during the robbery but no one was injured because of the gas leak, Husain said.

Police are now searching for five suspects who were wearing masks during the attempted robbery. Investigators are also asking for anyone with dashcam footage, cellphone video or other video of the area from around the time of the robbery to contact them.
