Road closures around Toronto this weekend
On what is predicted to be the hottest weekend of the summer, several city roads, including the Lake Shore Boulevard, will be a hot mess.
Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed from Parkside Drive to Strachan Avenue from midnight to 2 p.m. Saturday for the Pan Am Games' Women's Marathon.
Parkside Drive between Lake Shore Boulevard and High Park Road, as well as Colborne Lodge Drive and Centre Road in High Park, will be fully closed. One eastbound lane of Lakeshore, between Parkside and Net Drive, will stay open for local residents and businesses.
Lake Shore will be closed again Sunday for the same time period for the men's and women's 20-kilometre Race Walk.
All eastbound and westbound lanes on Lake Shore between British Columbia Drive and Strachan Avenue will remain closed until 2 p.m.
Yonge Street closed on Saturday
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness will hold its 43rd annual parade Saturday. It begins at 11 a.m., goes southbound on Yonge Street from Asquith Avenue, eastbound on Queen's Quay, and northbound on Freeland Street.
Scarborough streets closed for Junior Carnival
In Scarborough, the annual Junior Carnival Parade and Festival will result in the following road closures:
- 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: McLevin Avenue, from Sewells Road to Neilson Road
- 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Neilson Road, from McLevin Avenue to Finch Avenue
Church Street closed for PrideHouse
PrideHouse TO Celebrates Street Festival all weekend, resulting in Church Street being shut down from Alexander Street to Dundonald Street. The street will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday evening to Monday. The intersection of Church Street and Wellesley Street will remain open to traffic.
Cycling routes shut for the weekend
Motorists aren't the only ones who'll be inconvenienced by the closures.
- From 1 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, some sections of the Martin Goodman Trail will be closed to bikes.
- Cyclists travelling east must exit the trail at British Columbia Road/Lake Shore Boulevard and then take the detour route north on Dufferin Street, east on Liberty Street and south on Strachan Avenue to rejoin the Martin Goodman Trail at Coronation Park.
Cyclists travelling west must exit the trail at Remembrance Drive at New Brunswick Way and then travel west on Lake Shore Boulevard, north on Ontario Drive to Princes' Boulevard, west on Princes' Boulevard to Saskatchewan Road, proceeding west on British Columbia Road to rejoin the Martin Goodman Trail at Marilyn Bell Park.
