Police have identified a father in his 20s as the victim of a fatal shooting outside a club in Liberty Village early Sunday.

Kiesingar Gunn, 26, died after he was shot in the eye at about 4 a.m. in the Liberty Street and Mowat Avenue area, police said.

In a news release, police said they do not believe Gunn was the intended target of the shooting.

The Toronto police homicide squad has taken over the investigation.

Staff Sgt. Robert Hargan said on Sunday that there were two rounds of gunfire and Gunn was shot during the first round.

A statement posted on Facebook by Naomi Amber Gunn said: "I have lost my best friend ... my lover & AMAZING father of three of my kids."

"I'm going to miss EVERYTHING about him ... I will be strong for our babies because I know that's what you would want me to do."

Hargan has said several witnesses have come forward, but police do not have anyone in custody.

No suspect information has been released.

Christopher James, who was in a club in Liberty Village at the time of the shooting, said the partying suddenly turned to panic.

"I just heard a gunshot, then saw a lot of people running. I was just trying to get out of there."
