Man, 24, arrested, charged in double homicide at Victoria Park and Ellesmere
Harris Nnane was arrested Sunday evening, charged with two counts of murder
Toronto police say they've arrested and charged a 24-year-old man in connection with a double murder that happened outside a shopping mall in the Ellesmere Road and Victoria Park Avenue area Friday night.
Joseph Anzolona, 26, and Cynthia Mullapudi, 24, were both shot multiple times at close range as they sat in the back seat of an SUV in a parking lot near an LCBO. Two other people in the vehicle were unhurt.
Police say a lone gunman opened the rear door of the vehicle and opened fire before fleeing.
Staff Insp. Greg McLane told reporters at a news conference Monday that Harris Nnane was arrested Sunday evening at around 7:30 p.m. and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Nnane appeared briefly in court Monday and was remanded in custody.
McLane said investigators believe the shooting was gang related and that both Nnane and Anzolona were both known to police.
Anyone with information in the double homicide are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Gary Giroux at (416) 808-7400 ext. 77387 and Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
