Home invasion puts girl, 16, in hospital
Scarborough police are investigating a bizarre home invasion that left a teenage girl in critical condition.
It happened Saturday morning near Sheppard Avenue East and Markham Road.
Two armed men forced their way inside a house at 150 Burrows Hall Boulevard.
One of them forced a 40-year-old woman to accompany him through the house while he searched it. The second man stayed with the woman's 16-year-old daughter.
After the men fled, police found the girl without any vital signs, police said. Staff Sgt. Sean Brosnan said the girl is now in hospital in critical condition, but it isn't known how she was injured. Police said her mother was not harmed and nothing was taken from the house.
"They were armed but she wasn't shot," Brosnan said. "We're actually unsure of what caused her to go vital signs absent. We don't have an exact cause of those injuries. There's no obvious trauma such as a knife wound or a bullet wound."
The men are described as black and about six feet tall, with Jamaican accents. Police said they were wearing suits and overcoats at the time of the invasion. Police are asking anyone with information to call them.
