A driver mistakenly drove into the TTC's Queens Quay underground streetcar lane early Friday morning and then abandoned the vehicle when it became stuck on the tracks.

Police were called to the Queens Quay-Ferry Dock station at around 4 a.m. Friday morning to reports that a car was stuck in the tunnel.

The incident didn't affect TTC operations of the 509 Harbourfront or 510 Spadina routes, as streetcars don't start operating until 6 a.m.

"There's signage that clearly warns and guides vehicles to avoid going down the tracks," said the TTC's Danny Nicholson.

The car was removed from the tunnel before streetcar service began at 6 a.m. on Friday. (CBC)
