Alberta, Toronto police look for connections in killings of 4 Toronto men

A Toronto teenager who was shot to death in Fort McMurray, Alta., is believed to the the latest victim in a series of suspected drug-related homicides in the western province.

Four killings in Alberta involving men from the Toronto area since August have police in both provinces investigating whether the deaths are all linked to the illegal drug trade.

Daniel Asarfo-Adjei, 17, was shot and killed in Fort McMurray on Nov. 9.

"Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m., we received reports of shots fired within the area of Main Street," said Fort McMurray RCMP Const. Karolina Malik.

Mohamed Ali Ibrahim was killed at the Enoch Casino, on Aug. 30, west of Edmonton.

Nasir Mohamed Said, 22, was killed in Edmonton on Sept. 16th.  

Abas Abukar, 21, was also killed in Edmonton on Oct. 31. 

Each homicide, police say, was drug-related and each victim was previously known to police. 

"We have been in touch with Toronto city police as well as Edmonton city police," Malik said. "These are instances where we are determining whether they may be related." 

But Asarfo-Adjei's family said Wednesday they weren't aware he was in Alberta, much less involved with illegal drugs.

"He's a young many who was full of life, full of energy, and somebody that we all loved," said Damson Oppong, the family's pastor. "It's a terrible loss, a terrible loss."
