A city of Thunder Bay sidewalk sander knocked down a traffic light standard in the downtown south core on Friday morning.

The accident occurred at the intersection of North May Street and Miles Street

City Roads Manager Brad Adams said this kind of accident is rare.

"In the course of his sanding function along the sidewalk, somehow the buggy (being towed by the driver) came in contact with it. Once you crease it, if it's a traffic light pole, then it becomes vulnerable," Adams said.

Adams said no one was hurt in the incident.
